It is absolutely understandable that an artist and his life topic go through different situations, opinions, relationships and, gradually, a symbiosis is created of mutual features and the image of a mutual fate, which permanently stay in the character. The landscape has its rules, whimsy, structures, traditions, colours, spirit… During the anthropological reception of these features, the painter thus blends with the given, historic organism, creating a unit and becoming a subjective element; he has the opportunity to fill the voidbetween the inner harmony, common experience with the landscape and the possibility of eye and hand. I hope I am not wrong when I attribute similar effort to Pavel Hogel.
The Olomouc painter seems, at first glance, detached from social uneasiness and either real or artificially created theoretical problems of the present. It is not desired to classify his works from the previous decade into a closed system or into rules for close, group interests and conditions, which are hardly followed in the end. In retrospect, the genesis of Hogel´s creative opinion can trigger doubts as quickly as surprise by relaxed and expressive spontaneity, which ends on top of critical border. This is welcomed in an otherwise calm and concentrated person. He is able to convince himself about other paths—about unlimited possibilities of a line and a pastel technique …. Fragility of smaller area and soft light lead him to feedback on understanding nature in its crystals and gentle details.
He composes aerially felt canvases into seemingly closed structures which can be rid of, during careful „reading“, layers of painter´s speech, thus approaching the essence and symbol of the landscape. Attention is directed to the dominating accent which then makes room for other places in the painting. The composition viewed this way exceeds the frame of the painting and without breaking the balance it becomes part of the space; concurrently „something-own“ has the opportunity to break the artificial barrier surrounding the fashion interests and the guild understandings of the exceptionality.
WithHogel´s paintbrush, the landscape transforms into full colour symbol of serenity and calmness where the good is concentrated in harmony. Cosmic conception of the environment heading towards synthesis believes in itself, undoubtedly. More than drama, feeling of certainty, calmness and timelessness can be perceived. And this is quite a lot today.
